This malachite bead bracelet is strung with rounded, high-polish malachite beads, each showing the stone's signature banding — concentric rings that shift from pale to deep green across the surface of every bead. No two beads share quite the same pattern, so the finished piece has a naturally varied, almost painterly look as it catches the light. A single sterling silver bead sits at the closure, finished with a ball-and-hook clasp stamped 925, giving a clean, understated contrast against the malachite's colour. It's a substantial, tactile piece that reads as a statement of colour on the wrist rather than a subtle accent.

About Malachite

Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral, prized for its vivid green colour and the concentric, ribbon-like banding that forms as the stone grows in rounded, layered masses. The banding is a natural growth pattern — alternating shades of green build up in rings, so each polished bead or cabochon shows its own individual pattern. It's a relatively soft stone by gemstone standards, and is commonly cut into cabochons, beads and ornamental pieces.

Caring for Your Malachite

Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral, softer than many gemstones, and it reacts to acids, so keep it away from perfume, cosmetics and household chemicals. Avoid prolonged contact with water and direct heat. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth, and store it separately from harder stones or metal pieces that could scratch its polished surface.

Provenance

Selected by Joseph Bernecki and offered from his stall at The Rocks Market, George Street, Sydney — every Saturday and Sunday under the main canopy. Read Joseph's story →

Common Questions

What causes the banding in malachite?
Malachite forms in rounded, layered masses, and the concentric rings of light and dark green are a natural growth pattern rather than a treatment or dye. It's part of why no two malachite beads look quite the same.
Can this bracelet be worn every day?
Malachite is softer than many gemstones and is sensitive to acids, heat and prolonged water contact, so it's best removed before showering, swimming, exercising, or applying perfume and lotions. With that care, it wears well as a regular statement piece.
