This pendant is cut as a smooth teardrop cabochon from golden rutilated quartz — clear to smoky quartz threaded with fine, golden rutile needles that fan out in dense clusters through the stone. Set against the rutile are several sharp-edged black inclusions, consistent with hematite, that break up the gold with dark angular patches. The polish lets light travel through the quartz and catch the rutile needles from the inside, so the pattern shifts as the pendant moves. It's bezel-set in sterling silver and hangs from a fine chain.

About Golden Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated quartz is clear or smoky quartz that grew around fine, needle-like crystals of rutile — a titanium oxide mineral — so the rutile ends up trapped inside the quartz as a permanent inclusion rather than sitting on the surface. In golden rutilated quartz, those needles run copper to golden in colour, radiating through the stone in clusters or sprays. Quartz itself is a hard, durable mineral, but the inclusions are part of what makes each piece one-of-a-kind — no two arrangements of rutile needles are the same.

Caring for Your Golden Rutilated Quartz

Quartz is a reasonably hard, durable stone, but the rutile needles and other inclusions running through it are more delicate than the surrounding quartz. Wipe it with a soft, barely damp cloth, skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners, and store it away from harder stones so nothing scratches the polished surface. Take it off before swimming, gardening or anything likely to knock it.

Common Questions

What are the black markings inside the stone?
Those angular black patches are a natural mineral inclusion, consistent with hematite, sitting alongside the golden rutile needles inside the quartz. Rutile and hematite showing up together in the same piece of quartz is an uncommon combination — most rutilated quartz carries only the gold needles.
Is the gold colour natural?
Yes — the golden colour comes from rutile, a naturally occurring titanium mineral that grew as fine needles inside the quartz before it finished forming. It isn't a dye, coating or treatment; it's part of the stone.
Is the chain sterling silver?
Yes — both the pendant setting and the chain are sterling silver.
