This pendant sets a raw, uncut pyrite crystal cluster in a sterling silver prong mount — the stone left exactly as it formed, so its natural cube and striated crystal faces catch the light instead of a polished cut. Held up to the light, the brassy-gold metallic lustre shifts across dozens of small facets, with sharp edges throwing bright flashes and deeper crevices staying dark. It hangs from a fine sterling silver chain. Because it's a natural specimen rather than a cut stone, no two pieces are alike — this is the one piece available.

About Pyrite

Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral best known by its nickname "fool's gold," earned from its brassy, metallic lustre and blocky, cube-like crystal habit that can resemble gold at a glance. Unlike gold, pyrite is brittle rather than malleable, and it forms in sharp-edged crystals with a bright, almost mirrored shine on fresh faces. It's mined in many parts of the world and has long been prized by mineral collectors for exactly the qualities this piece keeps intact — natural crystal form, uncut and unpolished, so the stone reads as a specimen rather than a conventional gem.

Caring for Your Pyrite

Pyrite is an iron sulfide, and it can tarnish or dull if it's kept damp — moisture and humidity are its main enemies. Keep it dry, take it off before swimming, showering or anything sweaty, and store it separately from other jewellery in a dry spot. A soft dry cloth is usually enough to keep it looking bright; skip ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and harsh chemicals.

Common Questions

Is this natural pyrite?
Yes — this is a natural, uncut pyrite crystal cluster, not a cut or polished gemstone. The crystal faces are exactly as they formed, which is why the piece has an angular, faceted look rather than a smooth cut surface.
Why is pyrite called "fool's gold"?
Pyrite earned the nickname because its bright, brassy-gold metallic lustre can be mistaken for gold at a glance. The two are easy to tell apart up close — pyrite is brittle and forms in sharp, blocky crystals, while gold is soft and malleable.
Is the chain sterling silver?
Yes — both the pendant setting and the chain are sterling silver.
