This piece is a slice of 600-million-year-old Western Australia, shaped and polished into a pendant. Zebra Rock is mined in exactly one place on Earth — the East Kimberley near Kununurra — and the banding in this stone runs in a tight, natural striped rhythm of dark brown against lighter brown, a pattern laid down in Precambrian siltstone long before any animal walked the continent. At 47×22mm it wears as a bold statement piece with real geological presence. The sterling silver bail sits cleanly at the top of the stone, keeping the focus on the rock itself — as it should be. The polished surface has the soft satin quality Zebra Rock is known for: not glassy, not rough, just right.

About Zebra Rock

Zebra Rock is a banded sedimentary stone found only in one region of the world — the East Kimberley in far-northern Western Australia, near Lake Argyle and Kununurra. It formed roughly 600 million years ago in the Ranford Formation, and its distinctive look comes from natural rhythmic bands of iron-oxide-rich reddish-brown alternating with paler cream and white argillaceous siltstone. Each piece is a slice of Precambrian Australia. The stone polishes to a soft satin finish and the bands run in directions unique to that piece — no two stones share the same pattern. It's not crystalline like opal; it's the geological record itself, made wearable.

Common Questions

Does this pendant come with a chain?
No — the pendant is sold as the stone with its sterling silver bail. You supply your own cord, leather thong, or chain. The bail opening is standard size and will fit most chains sold at jewellery and bead suppliers. If you'd like a chain recommendation, get in touch.
Is Zebra Rock rare?
Yes — it's found in only one region on Earth. The East Kimberley deposits are limited, and finished pieces of good quality with clean banding are not abundant. This particular stone's tight, even striping makes it a strong example of the material.
Is the stone treated or dyed?
No. The banding is entirely natural — the colour comes from iron oxide minerals laid down in the original sediment 600 million years ago. The stone has been cut, shaped, and polished, nothing more.
Certification, shipping, returns?
