Three opal doublet stones sit across the band, each one bezel-set in sterling silver and cut to show the same dominant green — so when you turn your wrist, broadflash fires across all three at once rather than flickering stone by stone. Broadflash moves as a single sheet: green ignites first, then shifts at the edges into cooler blues depending on the light angle. Strong brightness means the colour reads clearly in daylight, artificial light, and candlelight alike. At 20cm, the bracelet sits comfortably on a standard wrist with the three stones spaced evenly across the top of the band — close enough to read as one continuous run of colour.

About Opal Doublet

An opal doublet is a thin slice of natural Australian opal cemented to a dark backing — usually ironstone or black potch (the common opal that doesn't carry colour play). Doublets are a legitimate technique used in the opal trade for over a century: solid opal thick enough to cut as a whole stone is rare, so using the precious opal layer efficiently means more people can own genuine Australian opal at a sensible price. The opal itself is the same material you'd find in a solid stone — just used more efficiently — and the dark backing intensifies the colour play above it.

Caring for Your Opal

Opal is softer than diamond or sapphire, and doublets need extra care around water — prolonged exposure can degrade the bond between the opal layer and its backing. See Opal Care for the full routine including doublet-specific notes.

Common Questions

Is this real Australian opal?
Yes — the opal layer in each stone is genuine natural Australian opal, the same material used in solid opal pieces. This bracelet has been crafted using the doublet technique, meaning the opal is cemented to a dark backing rather than left as a thicker solid stone. The opal itself is 100% natural and Australian.
What is a broadflash pattern?
Broadflash is one of the recognised gemological opal patterns — it describes colour that travels across the stone in wide, unbroken sheets rather than tight dots (pinfire) or irregular patches. A broadflash stone shifts colour as a single continuous plane when the viewing angle changes: the green in this bracelet sweeps evenly across each stone rather than breaking up into smaller fragments.
How does the clasp work?
The bracelet uses a standard sterling silver lobster-claw clasp — the same secure closure used on most fine jewellery chains and bracelets. It fastens with one hand and stays locked during wear. If you need an extension or a different clasp style, get in touch before we ship.
Certification, shipping, returns?
Every piece is backed by Joseph's personal guarantee, ships fully insured within Australia, and can be returned within 14 days. See Buying an Opal for the full breakdown.
