A 2.96ct solid Australian black opal with a semi-dark body tone and a mixed flash pattern — dominant green shifting through the stone as the light moves across it. Joseph set this one in a close-fitting bezel of 18K yellow gold that cups the stone cleanly and lets the colour do the talking. The polished surface is smooth and catches light readily, so the flash reads well in everything from indoor lamplight to daylight. On a 45cm gold-plated chain, it sits at collarbone height — noticeable without being heavy.

Black opal is the rarest and most sought-after variety of Australian opal, mined almost exclusively from Lightning Ridge in New South Wales.
