An Australian agate specimen from Agate Creek in North Queensland — the premier agate field in Australia and one of the best in the southern hemisphere. The piece shows the classic concentric banding agate is known for, hand-polished to bring out the natural colour and pattern.
No dye, no heat treatment — every tone is how the stone formed in the ground.
About Australian Agate
Agate forms as nodules inside cavities in volcanic rock and old lava flows. Silica-rich water slowly fills the cavity over millions of years, depositing the layered bands that agate is named for. Australia produces agate in Western Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and Victoria, but Agate Creek in North Queensland is the best-known source — prized by collectors worldwide for colour, clarity and pattern.
