A solid Australian Boulder Opal cut stone from Quilpie, South-West Queensland, with dominant red play-of-colour and strong flashes throughout. Red is the rarest and most valuable colour in boulder opal — stones of this grade are uncommon at any size.
Sold as a loose stone, ready to be custom-set as a pendant or ring, or kept unset as a collector's piece. Joseph can arrange custom settings to suit.
About Boulder Opal
Boulder opal is found only in Western Queensland, Australia, where seams of precious opal form within ironstone boulders. Unlike other opal varieties, boulder opal is cut with its natural ironstone host rock left on the back of the stone. This dark backing intensifies the colour play. Red-fire boulder opals are the rarest in the trade — most boulder stones show green, blue or orange, so a dominant-red example is a serious find.
