Zebra Rock is an incredibly rare and unique stone, estimated to be around 600 million years old, originating from the Precambrian period. The only known deposits of this remarkable rock are located in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Composed of fine-grained siliceous argillite (indurated siltstone or claystone), Zebra Rock is renowned for its striking red bands and spots, which contrast beautifully against a lighter background. These distinctive patterns are believed to have formed from sedimentary deposits in calm or deep water, with the red colouring caused by iron oxide.
